From the desk of Pastor John Johnston:

“A minister waited in line to fill his car with gas just before a long holiday weekend. The attendant worked quickly, but there were many cars ahead of him. Finally, the attendant motioned him toward the vacant pump.

Reverend, said the young man, I am sorry for the long delay but it seems that everyone waits until the last minute to get ready for a long trip…  The minister laughed, I know what you mean. It is the same in my business.”

I have a new word for you today… “Lax-a-daisy” One of my old bosses used that word to describe people that had very little concern for getting business taken care of. They always waited until they had to do something to get it done. Well I am not saying that you all out there are lax-a-daisy, but most people in this world today are.

When I was a young lad I remember Sunday as being a very important day. We never asked the question of whether we were going to church or not, going was automatic. We got up, put on our Sunday go to meeting clothes, loaded up in the car and went to Sunday school and church. There was always a sense of God’s authority and that it was up to us to please Him. When we got there we had fun and learned about Jesus from our teachers. The thing that made it special was that they were well prepared and they made it interesting. The pastor was always fired up and ready to go. He was not afraid to tell it like it was. He taught the truth and we listened and worked on our lives to be better people.

Today people don’t come to church because there is no fear of God anymore. It is just as simple as that.  There is a fast moving train that is running down the tracks. It has a heavy block on the throttle and the block is labeled SIN. This train is headed for destruction and a lot of people are on it. On the outside of the train it is labeled, “The Success Story, for the best of life, come aboard.”

We look at life as how much we have or how much we have done. Or maybe we have given up on success and blame God for what we don’t have. Most people have lost sight of the fact that God does not owe us anything. He gave us His Son and that my friend is more than we can give to Him.

He told us that He would return to us and take us home; that we need to be prepared for His return. So the question is this; are you ready for His return? If not you should think about where you are and be ready.

Matthew 24:42-44, “Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. 43)But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. 44)Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”

Lax-a-daisy; Maybe the problem is that most people are not concerned about His return or maybe they want to wait to the last minute…
