From the desk of Pastor John Johnston: 02-25-13

Preparing for the flood…

When the Johnston’s plan on going camping we start making “The List”. This list is usually 3 pages long of things to bring. (Keep telling yourself… camping is fun, camping is fun…)There are the usual things like bedding, clothes, toiletries, and things of that nature, and then you have to pack the DVD movies you want to watch. (Oh yes, we take a TV along as to not get bored) We then have to pack the games so we have something to do besides watch movies.

You may ask, “What about hiking, fishing, and exploring the countryside…” Well the boys get that out of the way pretty quick and then set there looking at you with that “Seriously, you want to go for a walk face” and then the “I’m bored” reaction when you want to fish. Ok, back to the packing… (Camping is fun, camping is fun…) Well now we need to pack the fishing gear. Ok we have poles, tackle, minnow bucket and cricket tube. Wait a minute, what do you mean we only have 3 poles… what happened to the fourth, and what did we do with the new fishing line to re-string the poles??? (Camping is fun, camping is fun)

The next on the list is to pack the camp site stuff. You know, lanterns, fold out chairs, gas grill, table cloths microwave, extension cords, refrigerator… all that normal stuff you take camping.

By the time we have it all packed we need a semi truck to get it all to the camp park. (Camping is fun, camping is fun) Ok, we seem to have everything together, I think… What are we forgetting??? Hey Tina do you have lunch ready yet? Oh Yea! We need food for our camping trip… We now need to unload the frig and the pantry cabinets and get this all loaded into the camper! Now, that should be all, I think? All this packing is giving me a headache… (Camping is fun, camping is fun?) I need some Tylenol... Oh yea we need to pack our meds!!! Ok, now I believe this is going to be all… so we hook the truck up to the camper and now we need to hook the boat to the jeep. This means double the gas, double the fun!!! We then look at each other and say that this is going to be the best 3 day trip we have ever had. (Camping is fun, camping is fun!)

When we get to the camp site we begin to remember what we forgot so we make a Wal-Mart run and spend another hundred dollars… J (camping is fun, camping is fun) Oh no!!! What about the dogs???

Isn’t it funny how we will go thru so much trouble to get ready to go somewhere yet some of us are far from ready to  see the return of Christ. Sometimes in our lives we tend to not be prepared for what God is going to do. We must be prepared for the flood to be ready to receive His blessings. The best advice for this is really the cheapest way to go. As John the Baptist said in Matthew chapter 3:2-3 “and saying, Repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand! 3) For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah, saying: The voice of one crying out in the wilderness! “Prepare the way of the Lord! Make His paths straight.”

We can be prepared for the Lord’s return… we just need to make a list of our spiritual needs, pray about them, put His word to work in your heart and you will find that you will be ready when the time comes…
