A father was approached by his small son who told him proudly, “I know what the Bible means!”
His father smiled and replied, “What do you mean, you know what the Bible means?” The son replied, “I do know!”
“Okay, said the father, what does it mean?”

‘Basic Information Before Leaving Earth

When I was growing up I remember going to my grandmother’s house to stay when my parents went on a trip. If I was there on the weekend, we would always go to her church.

I noticed that her Bible was worn and tattered and asked her why she did not get a new one and she replied, “Johnny, I don’t need a new Bible, I like this one just fine”, she would say it with a German accent… In her spare time you would find her reading it.

I remember asking her how it got so worn out and she told me that it was from reading it over and over, turning page after page. It was God’s road map for life. At that time I did not exactly know what she meant.

Many years have gone by since those days and Neenaw (My grandmother) has long since gone to be with the Lord. Since then I have worn out a few Bibles but continue to use one of them. For me a Bible becomes a personal friend when you have had it long enough to wear it out.

How about you, have you worn a Bible out in your time? God’s words are a map for our lives. He tells us which direction to go. Luke 4:4 But Jesus answered him, saying “It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God”

From time to time we need to ask ourselves, “Are we living by God’s Holy Word? Are we reading His word daily”?
