As far back as I can remember
my family has always had Dachshunds. I am not sure why we have always had this
breed of dog. I remember times when I wished we had a Labrador or a German
Shepherd or some sort of large dog, but never got one… Oh there were times when we did own a Heinz
57 dog but it did not seem to last too long. And there was that one Pick-a-poo
my sister had, his name was Peety or maybe it was Pete. Well nothing we had
seemed to fit except the wiener dogs.
One thing is for sure, if you
were down and out and nothing could lift your spirits you can always count on
these dogs doing something funny or weird (Oh, believe me, they are weird dogs)
and then you would find yourself laughing at them or at the very least smiling.
How can a high maintenance, vindictive, prissy, finicky, dog be such an
adorable loving companion? I believe only God can answer that question.
As we come to this time of
year I have talked to some who dread Christmas due to the pain it reminds them
of; the lost family members, or a terrible break up, or just the loneliness
that can come to those spending Christmas alone. It is one thing to tell
someone that they are never alone and another to be in their shoes. There is
one thing we can count on; Jesus is always with us. When we feel that He is not
there it is because we have taken our eyes off of Him. In Matthew 28:16-20 Jesus gives us the “Great Commission” and at the
end of verse 20 He says “and lo, I am with you always, even until the end of the
age”. These are not just words in
a book, they was a promise from Jesus to all of us.
So when you are feeling down,
try looking at the situation from a different angle. You will be surprised at
how different you see things… Dare to rise above your obstacles and tell your
problems how big your God is…
