Many years ago, a friend of
mine once said, “He who dies with the most toys wins!” When this was said there
were several of us standing around his new truck and most all had a good laugh
from his comment while we all drooled over this new 4 x 4. My friend’s life was
full of gathering as much stuff, mostly cars and motorcycles, as he could
afford.
Today our lives can be the
same way. Sometimes we get caught up in the materialistic world. We tend to
spend our entire lives looking for that special something that will fill that
void in our hearts… a new car or a new house or maybe if we get a pool….
About eighteen and a half
years ago Tina and I decided to move to the Benton area. Instead of looking for
a house to buy we decided to look at having one built, after all our neighbors
moved there and built one… J Mostly we wanted to raise our children in a smaller city with smaller
schools where the child to teacher ratio was much closer. But the idea of a NEW
home was very tempting. It was very nerve wracking to say the least. Yea we got
to pick the carpet and paint and fixtures… big deal… I had to go to the house
every day to make sure that this beast of burden was being built to the
specifications agreed upon. We had to move walls, they installed the wrong
bathroom fixtures in the master bath and they almost had the sheet rock up
before they corrected the bath tub issue, which was supposed to be a shower
unit. Oh don’t get me wrong we were enjoying the fact that we were building a
house. We were up there with all those folks getting new homes.
After about a month of living in the new home I remember looking at Tina one night and saying, “I thought this was going to be more exciting. I thought this was going to be so much more…” But as God put a conviction on our hearts, it was just a house. Any home would do as long as God was number One. Since that time in our lives we have never gone for the big homes or the most fancy. We have settled for what would work and was the right price.
Getting back to “The Legacy”,
the most important thing that we can do is to leave a good legacy for our
children and grandchildren. It is not
about who has the most toys, it is about our Love of God, our love of family,
and our willingness to serve others. Billy Graham said, “The legacy we leave behind for our children, grandchildren and this
great nation is crucial. As I approach my 94th birthday, I realize
this election could be my last. I believe it is vitally important that we cast
our ballots for candidates who base their decisions on biblical principles and
support the nation of Israel. I urge you to vote for those who protect the
sanctity of life and support the biblical definition of marriage between a man
and a woman. Vote for biblical values this November 6th, and pray
with me that America will remain one nation under God.”
1John 2: 15-17 “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16) For all that is in the world-the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life-is not of the Fathers but is of the world. 17) And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.”
P.S. He who dies with the most toys… still dies…
